POISON DART FROGS
Temperature
The majority of poison dart frogs require a daytime temperatures in the range of 24-30 ° C. On the other hand Highlans species like it slightly cooler between 18-24 ° C. Night temperatures should generally not fall under 18 ° C and for highland species not under 16 ° C. Important for all species, however is, the temperature fluctuation between day and night. More we can ensure this, then better it is for the welfare of animals. Particularly difficult to maintain or breed species to be for us, so as difficult as they require the extreme variation in order to come in the mood . They are rarely offered. The best example is the success of Mr Liebig in the attitude and breeding of O. lehmanni in the greenhouse!
There are also some species such as D. leucomelas and O. pumilio, which like a very high daily peak temperatures of up to 35 ° C. Of course, only over a short period, but it can be downright while sunbathing experience. D. leucomelas began his first ever call on warm days. Clear sign that he is from 28-30 ° C was in the mood.
The temperature in the terrarium is usually 2-3 degrees above room temperature. A lamp at the tank cover warms up the tank in addition. If this were not enough, can be either a heatermat under the ground or on the side walls to help you. The floor heating, I would not recommend it because it is unnatural, that the heat comes from below and also the soil dry out. A siliconheatcabel under the front bar ventilation can also accomplish this and also provides a clear view into the tank. The frontscreen will not tarnish. If a stream runs, the water with a warm aquariumheater and thus affect the overall temperature. The heater must be installed so that it is out of reach for the frogs is. Otherwise it can lead to scalding.
In summer it can quickly happend, that the temperatures in a hobby room rise on a tolerable level. Remedy then only one air conditioning or alternative open window with a larger space fan. Moreover, the different refuge pools and water-filled leaf which. More frequent spraying brings additional cooling. I've given up from a dry phase in the summer because I have some healthy animals lost. A too dry basin, while high temperatures are barely tolerated.
